Why Your Business Email Should Never Be a Free Gmail Address

Person typing a professional business email

Using a free Gmail or Yahoo address for a business is one of those small decisions that seems harmless and quietly isn’t. It’s worth the ten minutes it takes to fix.

What it says to customers

An email from hello@yourbusiness.com and one from yourbusiness2019@gmail.com read very differently to a customer deciding whether to trust an invoice, a quote, or a follow-up message. It’s a small signal, but it’s one people notice, especially the first time they hear from you.

It can affect deliverability too

Business email sent through a properly configured domain — with SPF and DKIM records set up correctly — tends to land in inboxes more reliably than mail from a shared free provider, particularly for higher-volume sending. It’s not automatic just by switching, but it’s the foundation that makes good deliverability possible.

It’s not expensive or complicated to set up

If you already own your domain, setting up email on it is usually a same-day task, not a project. Most hosting plans, including ours, include email accounts on your domain at no extra charge — there’s rarely a reason to keep using a free address once you have a domain anyway.

If you’re not sure where to start, our contact page is a fine place to ask — it’s usually a quick fix.
